Record Breaking Results for Class of 2014!

Well done to our ‘Class of 2014’ for gaining the best GCSE results in the school’s history! An amazing 83% of pupils gained at least 5 GCSEs at A*-C including English and Maths, the best results achieved in any South Tyneside school.  The outstanding results were achieved despite a significant number of changes to the GCSE exam system, intended to make the exams more difficult. The figure of 83% is significantly up on last year’s headline figure of 77% and beats our previous best ever figure of 78%.  There was also a significant rise in top grades and around one third of the results achieved by Whitburn pupils were A* or A grades.

“Our pupils worked incredibly hard and it is wonderful to see them achieve the grades they deserve.  They were amazingly well supported by our outstanding staff and the excellent support they received from parents and carers also played a key part in the success.  Although the headline figures are wonderful we are proud of the achievements of all of our pupils and I am also delighted with continued improvements in the levels of progress in both English and Maths. Over the last 12 months we have invested in additional staffing to help achieve these outstanding results and I would like to thank the Governing Body for their support to make this possible”.  Alan Hardie, Principal, Whitburn Church of England Academy.
