Steps to Success Launch

Our Year 7 pupils had a first day with a difference as we launched the Steps to Success programme with a motivational talk and activities led by British Olympic gymnast and ‘Tumble’ star, Craig Heap.  This programme is based around self development and is designed to help pupils raise their aspirations as well as give them the advice and skills they will need to overcome challenges and achieve their dreams.

Craig gave an inspiring and engaging talk to pupils that used his own life story to show them that anyone could be successful in whatever field they choose if they have the right attitude and are prepared to work hard.  He then toured the classrooms, signing autographs and answering questions as the pupils began working on the ‘ladders of success’ that will help them to achieve their dreams.  Pupils will continue to follow the programme, as they set themselves goals for academic and personal development in their Thinking Skills lessons.

Whitburn is the first school in this area to run this programme, which has had great success in raising aspirations nationally.  Our new Year 7 pupils really rose to the challenge and finished their first day at school both tired, and inspired.
